Iolite looks violet blue from one side and clearish from the other.
The pendant on this piece was made with the unusual pondo stitch using iolite lined seed beads and blue grey rainbow finished delicas. It makes a lovely net of x-like stitches which is embellished with genuine iolite and sterling silver and fringed with freshwater pearls in shades of blue grey violet.
The strap is freeform peyote stitch of the same beads with additions of iris, silver lined clear, silver lined blue and matte transparent seed beads, dark grey rainbow finished delicas, silver lined cubes, rainbow finished transparent iolite and clear triangles, some grey rounds found in an antique shop, sodalite and a fumed and faceted quartz bead. It clasps to the side with a lovely and easy to use handformed and hammered sterling silver spiral hook.
The necklace is 18 inches (46cm) long, and the pondo piece measures about 2 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches (6.5 by 4.5cm).
This is a one of kind piece that you'll love to wear. It was a challenge to create, one stitch at a time! This original design is copyrighted by thebeadedlily.
